Customer Story
ACP IT Solutions
Monitoring 200+ Customers from a Single Platform: ACP IT Solutions and Icinga.
Since 2015, ACP IT Solutions AG has been running Icinga as the central monitoring platform for their Managed Services business – covering more than 200 customer environments from a single, scalable system.
ACP IT Solutions AG is a leading IT systems integrator and managed services provider based in Germany. With over 220 employees the company designs, implements, and operates secure, high-availability IT solutions for mid-market businesses.
The ACP Group, majority-owned by its employees, posted record revenue of €1.12 billion in fiscal year 2025/26 across 50+ locations in Germany and Austria.
The Challenge
Decisive was above all the high flexibility, adaptability, and the ability to tailor monitoring individually to different customer environments.
Inconsistent Monitoring Across a Growing Customer Base
ACP IT Solutions AG is an IT consulting and managed services provider based in Bavaria. The company supports more than 200 customers – managing virtualized server environments, cloud and hybrid infrastructures, and network architectures as part of a growing Managed Services portfolio. Fabian Kordick, Data Analyst Professional at ACP IT Solutions, has worked with Icinga throughout his time at the company.
When ACP began building out that portfolio in 2015, their existing monitoring setup was not ready for it. Systems were monitored inconsistently across customer environments – some partially covered, some not at all. Incident detection was slow, and there was no central visibility across the customer base.
The Requirements
The goal was clear: build a monitoring platform that could scale with a growing Managed Services business, handle heterogeneous environments of any size, and keep multiple customers’ data properly separated. Flexibility, individual configurability per customer, and reliable alerting were non-negotiable.
ACP evaluated several tools, including PRTG and Checkmk. What drove the decision toward Icinga was long-term configurability and the ability to adapt the platform to environments that differ significantly from one another.
The Solution
A Distributed Setup Across 250 Satellites
ACP built a distributed Icinga infrastructure: 2 master nodes and approximately 250 satellites. The satellites extend monitoring reach into individual customer environments, covering systems that are otherwise unreachable from a central location.
Monitored scope includes network devices of all types, services, processes, and performance parameters across the full customer base. The platform integrates with Grafana and InfluxDB for performance visualization, OpenSearch and Elasticsearch for log correlation, and Puppet and Ansible for automated configuration management.
Implementation followed a structured path: requirements analysis, installation and configuration of server, database, and web interface, then rollout of hosts, services, templates, and check definitions. After initial setup, the installation was remotely verified by a consultant of Icinga partner NETWAYS. The later migration to IcingaDB was completed without issues.
Multi-tenant by Design
Icinga’s multi-client capability was central to the setup. Each customer environment is monitored in isolation – no data leakage between tenants, clean separation, and individually configurable alerting rules per customer. Automated checks handle routine coverage; the team focuses on critical events rather than monitoring infrastructure.
The collaboration with Icinga partner NETWAYS went smoothly, and everything came together as planned.
Success
Proactive, centrally managed monitoring reduces downtime and increases customer satisfaction.
From Reactive to Proactive, at Scale
ACP now runs a stable, scalable monitoring platform that covers both internal processes and more than 200 customer environments from a single system. Onboarding new customers is a defined, repeatable process.
For end customers, the effect shows in higher availability, faster incident response, and monitoring individually adapted to their environment. Asked to describe Icinga in three words, Fabian Kordick doesn’t hesitate: reliable, flexible, powerful. “Working with Icinga is great,” he adds.
What’s Next
ACP plans to extend monitoring coverage into application and service layers – moving beyond infrastructure visibility to analyzing the behavior of specific applications. Anomaly detection is another area in development: identifying deviations from normal behavior earlier, before customer-facing impact occurs.
Outcomes
- Central monitoring platform covering 200+ customer environments from a single system
- ~12,000 hosts and ~130,000 services monitored across a distributed setup of ~250 satellites
- Clean multi-tenant separation: individually configured alerting and checks per customer
- Reduced downtime and faster incident response through proactive, automated monitoring
- Repeatable onboarding process for new managed services customers
- Icinga in production since 2015, with active plans to extend into application monitoring and anomaly detection
