Additional Information
For security, stability and compatibility reasons it’s recommended to update Icinga on a regular basis. Please consider the following additional information.
Use official Releases
Additionally to our installation packages, the code of our open source projects is hosted on GitHub. Your production environment should run only on official releases of our software. Our support team will provide dedicated patches or patched packages for you if required.
Dependencies and Upgrades
Many Icinga components depend on third-party libraries, projects and databases. While we ensure that those dependencies are met by our official packages, we encourage you to verify the installation requirements and make sure your systems are prepared accordingly. Where applicable, we publish dedicated information about upgrading the software.
Extended LTS
Some operating system vendors offer extended support lifecycles after the regular LTS term reaches the end. We do not provide packages for extended LTS versions of operating systems and encourage you to upgrade your servers to the then available regular LTS version.
Footnotes
¹ Our RHEL packages may be used on operating systems that are a 100% application binary compatible alternative to Red Hat Enterprise Linux (eg. Oracle Linux, Rocky Linux, AlmaLinux).
Agent
Running Icinga 2 as an agent requires less functionality than a master or satellite setup. Icinga as an agent is supported in a wider range of operating systems and versions. Running Icinga 2 in agent mode includes the following features:
- All logging methods
- Checker Feature
- API Feature
Support for Icinga 2 Agent ends automatically if the OS support ends. Following operating systems are supported for the Icinga 2 Agent.
