Icinga Quality Time – Our Yearly Teamevent

by | Jul 29, 2025

Last week, it was that time again: our annual Icinga team event took place.

Let’s get this out of the way first: yes, that’s the entire Icinga team in the photo.

For some, it might be surprising how small we actually are. What you see here is the core team, the people behind strategy and development. But Icinga isn’t just the faces in this picture. Behind the scenes, there is an active global community, long-time contributors, and trusted international partners. That broader network plays a big role in what makes Icinga possible, and we’ll be sharing more about them in an upcoming blog post.

Getting together in a team event is always special. It’s a chance to step away from screens, GitHub issues and day-to-day tasks and just spend time together, both productively and casually.

Here are some sharings from this year’s event:

What we want to keep

  • FOSS is and stays our core value. It’s the foundation of everything we do, and we’re committed to keeping it that way.
  • We’ve improved our internal communication. We’re documenting more, translating quick verbal discussions into actual issues, and updating internal docs more consistently. That might sound small, but it makes a difference in daily work and we want to keep it up.
  • Webinars are here to stay. They’re a great way for us to showcase features, both new and existing, and give users a direct line to ask questions and get answers. We’ll keep them!

What we want to improve

  • Better onboarding through documentation. While our docs work well for many, we know that new users can still struggle to find a smooth entry point. We want to lower the barrier for beginners and make the first steps with Icinga easier and more intuitive. Stay tuned!
  • A clear stance on AI. Like many teams, we’re exploring where AI can support us and where it shouldn’t. Our goal is to define that line clearly, so that we have common understanding where, when and how to use AI in a way, that we profit, but don’t rely on it. We still believe in using our own knowledge and brains.

What you see in these photos

  • A team that’s been growing steadily and sustainably since 2008.
  • A team without investors – by choice.
  • A team that prioritizes carefully and constantly.
  • A team that has fun – at work, and at team events like this one.
