Insights from Feedback Week 2024: Enhancing Icinga Community Experience

by | Apr 26, 2024

At Icinga, our community is at the heart of everything we do. That’s why we dedicated a week to hear directly from you during our Feedback Week, held from April 15th to April 19th. We’re excited to share the key takeaways and insights from the surveys conducted across our social media platforms. Here’s a condensed rundown of what you had to say:

Community Forum Engagement

One of the highlights was the increased awareness and engagement with our community forum. We’re thrilled to see more users getting involved compared to previous years.

Documentation Improvement

Feedback regarding our documentation highlighted the need for better quality in explanations. Rest assured, we’re taking your input seriously to enhance the user experience and make information more accessible. We’re discussing how to improve the documentation, if you want to add anything to it, feel free to add your thoughts to the feedback week topic in the forum!

Module Usage

Interestingly, there has been a shift in module usage over the years, with fewer users relying on multiple modules. We are wondering why that is? If you would like to go window shopping for something new to implement, and maybe get a better overview of your environment, have a look at our components’ docs.

IDO vs Icinga DB

Additionally, there’s a noticeable trend of users transitioning towards Icinga DB over IDO. We’re happy to see people making the transition!

Are you using the IDO or IcingaDB?

IDO Icinga DB Mixed
2022 61.68% 32.87%
2023 26.16% 21.91% 68.18%
2024 12.14% 45.20% 31.18%

Meetup Interest

It’s encouraging to see that you would be interested in both organising or attending Icinga Meetups. We’re eager to support these initiatives and foster stronger community connections. So please reach out if you want to see something happen in your area, we’re more than happy to support you with the event organisation and send you some merch and if it’s possible also a speaker from the Icinga Team!

Interest in Others’ Setups

Understanding what interests our community members about others’ setups helps us tailor our content accordingly. You showed almost equal interest in custom developments, environments, or setup histories! We’re committed to showcasing diverse perspectives through customer stories and will also offer open discussions at the Icinga Summit where you can talk about your setups and ask questions in a less public setting than the stage itself.

Barriers to Event Attendance

Location emerged as a prominent barrier to attending Icinga events. We’re taking note of this feedback and exploring ways to make our events more accessible to a wider audience.

Certification Interest

The interest in becoming certified as an Icinga Professional is evident, with many expressing a desire for certification now or in the future. We’re excited to announce that the first certification is included for free in the Icinga Summit ticket shop, and held on site there – with plans for online certification underway!

Dependency Objects

It’s interesting to see how active the engagement with dependency objects within Icinga is.

Do you actively use the dependency objects in Icinga?
Yes, often 26.67%
I have a few 40.00%
Not really 16.67%
Didn’t know they existed 16.67%

Especially considering that there might be some new development on the horizon. If you are using dependencies in Icinga, maybe you want to sign up for the Icinga Insiders and participate in an interview?

In conclusion, your feedback during Feedback Week has been helpful to us in shaping the future of the Icinga.

We’re committed to implementing your suggestions, fostering collaboration, and providing valuable resources to support your journey with Icinga.

Thank you for being a part of our vibrant community, and we look forward to continuing this journey together.
