Monthly Snap October: Icinga Camps and Meetups

We’re in OSMC mode in October which typically means that expectations are high, time is limited and everyone is busy preparing talks, demos, implementing new features … but also fixing things. Icinga 2.10 brings support for namespaces, improved TLS connection performance and much more. Community members tackled some bugs already, 2.10.1 is released and 2.10.2 is waiting for test feedback from the snapshot packages. Also notable – we’ve agreed on writing more technical documentation for Icinga, future 2.11 will bring even more shiny insights.
On the right, you can see a draft from our community channels, how Icinga can be run distributed on ships. We’ve also learned that CESNET is using Icinga 2 and the Director for monitoring their eduroam infrastructure, sharing everything on GitHub too 🙂
Our partner Shadow-Soft wrote about using the official Chef cookbooks, NETWAYS updated the Icinga cloud offering in NWS to 2.10.1 and published the webinar video for adding new satellites and also working with the Icinga Director. If you are in Switzerland, join our partner Linuxfabrik for an official Icinga training in December!
Our first meetup in Salzburg, Austria was a great success – many hours of helping each other and exploring all the things. Rumors tell that other Austrian cities might get involved soon – many thanks to Moritz for organizing 🙂  Icinga Camp Tel Aviv happens on December 17th, make sure to book your flight and ticket!
Thilo looked into Grafana and Graphite graphs embedded into notifications, Gian Paolo went for NetBox and Icinga as MVP. Doing the migration dance from Icinga 1 to 2 is a good thing since 1.x is out of support by the end of 2018. 42ThinkTank did great!
That’s it for October, looking forward to the OSMC week, especially to meet many of you 🙂

Monthly Snap August: Icinga Camp Tel Aviv, OSMC Schedule, Icinga 2 Book & Releases

Our first Icinga Camp Tel Aviv happens on December 17th, 2018, the fourth edition in Berlin takes place on March 14th, 2019 again 🙂
The first Icinga meetup in Salzburg, Austria happens on Oct 12th, 2018 – join for more #icingalove. The Berlin meetup was a great success, Carsten and Lennart joined there too. Watch their meetup group for future dates.
The OSMC 2018 schedule is online, with so many interesting talks in two days on three tracks. The hackathon on the last day is also back for more #icingalove.
Watch out for future Icinga trainings by our partners. There’s a new workshop available by NETWAYS which practices automated setups with Puppet and Icinga.
This month brought many releasesIcinga Web 2.6.1 as bugfix release, Graphite module 1.1 and Director 1.5. Icinga joined the OpenAPM initiative in August, you can learn more about it at OSMC later this year. We’ve also learned that Icinga is now an official input for InfluxDB’s Telegraf.
Carsten released v1.3.0 of the Grafana module for Icinga Web 2. Claudio shared insights into pinning checks in HA enabled cluster zones. Our partner NETWAYS has uploaded their webinar on building an Icinga 2 environment. Bernd updated his blog post series on monitoring tools which includes Icinga (obviously ^_^).
When the Icinga 2 book v2.0 got released, you are doing crazy things …. you’ll pause your vacation and drive 140 km … or you’ll wait and take it with you … sit at home and wait like xmas … compare the size, it is huge … feel motivated in a new week … and just love it.
Nagstamon turned 10 this month, cheerio ? Gunnar provided a patch for Icinga 2 which adds references, crazy shit. The monitoring plugins team and community members are working on check_curl replacing check_http at some point. Why would time be wrong, monitored with Icinga? 😉
Thank you Sascha for the nice view with the Icinga 2 book!

We've come a long way together … Icinga turns 9

Born to be wild

We’ve been busy with bringing Elasticstack integration into full shape with the Icinga 2 feature and the corresponding Icinga Web 2 module. Both of them were thankfully funded and sponsored by VW. Elasticsearch 6 support is sponsored by a customer too, this will hit 2.9 later in June. Earlier in 2017 we’ve also released the Logstash output for Icinga.
Another integration is Graphite. Shiny metrics available for problem analysis and correlation directly integrated into the host/service detail view in Icinga Web 2 are now a breeze. There’s also a feature rich template language available which makes customization a breeze. And in case you’ll need an overview dashboard, that’s the icing on the cake.
Want to kick off your own module? Look into the existing modules and peek into Eric’s showcase module. Expect more insights into Icinga Web 2 modules and also the theming in the future 🙂

Monthly Snap March: Icinga Camps, Roadmap & Releases

Icinga Camp Berlin and New York were a blast – thank you everyone for joining! The archive for both is now online including slides and recordings. Marianne shared her impressions and Marco did so too 🙂
We’ve also had the pleasure to join the 2nd Icinga meetup in Zurich. Oh what a lovely community … we’ll sure be back for more #icingalove ❤️
We’re already planning for Berlin 2019 and would love to see your talks on how you use Icinga, integrations, cool new ideas, or just the crazy things no-one expects … did I say LSD theme? Want your own Icinga meetup in your hometown? Just get in touch, we’ll help you organise and can provide some swag too.

Monthly Snap November: Releases, Icinga Exchange and OSMC

OSMC brought a lot of releases and new cool stuff to share and use this month.
Icinga 2 v2.8 including the CA-Proxy, On-Demand-Signing and Elasticsearch feature was released right before OSMC. Some of you already upgraded their production environment 🙂
Icinga Web 2 v2.5 was shown during our Icinga presentation at OSMC and released right after. Collapsible side menu, revamped design, domain aware AD authentication and many cool things more. Ensure to follow the upgrading documentation.
We’ve also announced new modules in their first release 0.9: Modules for Graphite and Elasticsearch integrated into Icinga Web 2.
Icinga Exchange v2.0 is now LIVE. Login with your Github account, create a new project, paste your project’s Github URL, choose an awesome logo, add some tags and let it sync. “icingaexchange.yml” is no more. Please join on in, we need your support on making this platform even better 🙂
